Man a week just flies by so fast. This week I'm using Essie's "Beyond Cozy" again. This time mixed with OPI's "Live and Let Die" from the Skyfall collection. It was the only glitter I had that I could make work with my first attempt at a tape mani.
I don't have mani tape, so I used scotch tape. I'm still not super happy with the results, but it's my first time so after three botched attempts it became personal and I was determined to make it somewhat passable. Haha.
All photos are two coats OPI, one coat Essie, and one coat HK Girl top coat.
OPI and Essie are both my two top favorite mainstream nail polish brands. OPI is smooth and thick, but not too thick, and Essie has that thin yet opaque glitter that remarkably didn't run or stick through the scotch tape.
It's another dark mani, but we had a couple cold days here in Texas and that's all the excuse I need to drag out dark colors another week. =D
They look great together! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat combo! Using scoth tape for manicures seems easy... But it isn't! I often ask for some help when I do them. Great job! ;)
ReplyDeleteI really thought it would be easier than it was. Thank you!
DeleteLooks great!! I use scotch tape for my manis too sometimes :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think I've figured it out, I just have to be more selective about which polishes I use.
DeleteI like the bold stripes better than the narrow ones. You can see the polish - you're not teased with hints of it. Nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I prefer the bold stripes as well. ^_^
DeleteKetlyn, I adore this mani! And the fact u did this with plain old tape is impressive. Great idea to go with the angled application. Beyond Cozy is beyond beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! ^_^ I feel a lot better about it now. Haha
DeleteI think this looks great! IMO, I think scotch tape works better for big lines like this, anyways. I only use striping tape if I want little skinny lines because if you try to put them right next to each other for a larger stripe, polish always ends up sneaking in somehow! lol.
ReplyDeleteYea I tried doing skinny lines at first and it was a disaster. The bolder stripes remind me more of candy cane anyway, so I ended up being pretty satisfied with it. =D
DeleteWell that's super good for a first try! Scotch is not easy to work with though, so if you're not happy don't beat yourself up for it and go buy some striping tape :p It will make this kind of manis so much easier! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I really think having some striping tape will make for a less time consuming experience next time. Haha.
DeleteI love this look! I like to use scotch tape too for tape manis :)
ReplyDeleteHey what a nice job! Tape manis are always hard on us! But yes I agree with Sarah, although I own striping tape, it only works for super thin lines, for everything else we're stuck with the old scotch!
ReplyDeleteSomeone should invent thicker striping tape. ...hmmmm
DeleteI don't have mani tape either. I've used scotch tape with success. Love your design!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I guess if I stick with it I'll eventually improve. =D
DeleteI really like the result, the fact that it's not perfectly straight seems to be a wanted look actually. Know what I mean? And you reminded me about that OPI I really need to try!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great OPI. I absolutely love their Skyfall collection. Such a great formual.
DeleteBeautiful!! And keep working with the scotch tape. I have and use both it and striping tape and the scotch tape is actually my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'll definitely try again.
DeleteThis is really cute! Im loving the colors together
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think they compliment each other well.
DeletePretty combo!
ReplyDeleteI dig it! The lines look great! Love me some glitter!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I don't know if I'm even capable of doing a glitterless mani anymore. Haha.
DeleteI love the color combo, and I think you did a great job with the striping!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! ^_^
DeleteI use scotch tape too, I still haven't caved and gotten mani tape. I think it's just the waiting for the base color to dry that I have the problem with. I'm an impatient person! LOL I love it, you did an awesome job!
ReplyDeleteThank you! ^_^ I used circle labels to do tomorrow's mani. It turned out interesting. Haha.
DeleteOh, mani tape is a must have for me!! I suck at cutting the tape up in little pieces!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty! How do you like HK Girl? I am curious about trying it!
ReplyDeleteI am super happy about HK Girl. It's the best alternative to Seche Vite and it doesn't goop up after half a bottle. I'm sold.
