ABC Challenge: E is for Essie

Man a week just flies by so fast. This week I'm using Essie's "Beyond Cozy" again. This time mixed with OPI's "Live and Let Die" from the Skyfall collection. It was the only glitter I had that I could make work with my first attempt at a tape mani.

I don't have mani tape, so I used scotch tape. I'm still not super happy with the results, but it's my first time so after three botched attempts it became personal and I was determined to make it somewhat passable. Haha.

All photos are two coats OPI, one coat Essie, and one coat HK Girl top coat.

OPI and Essie are both my two top favorite mainstream nail polish brands. OPI is smooth and thick, but not too thick, and Essie has that thin yet opaque glitter that remarkably didn't run or stick through the scotch tape.

It's another dark mani, but we had a couple cold days here in Texas and that's all the excuse I need to drag out dark colors another week. =D

  1. Great combo! Using scoth tape for manicures seems easy... But it isn't! I often ask for some help when I do them. Great job! ;)

    1. Thank you! I think I've figured it out, I just have to be more selective about which polishes I use.

  3. I like the bold stripes better than the narrow ones. You can see the polish - you're not teased with hints of it. Nice!

  4. Ketlyn, I adore this mani! And the fact u did this with plain old tape is impressive. Great idea to go with the angled application. Beyond Cozy is beyond beautiful!

  5. I think this looks great! IMO, I think scotch tape works better for big lines like this, anyways. I only use striping tape if I want little skinny lines because if you try to put them right next to each other for a larger stripe, polish always ends up sneaking in somehow! lol.

    1. Yea I tried doing skinny lines at first and it was a disaster. The bolder stripes remind me more of candy cane anyway, so I ended up being pretty satisfied with it. =D

  6. Well that's super good for a first try! Scotch is not easy to work with though, so if you're not happy don't beat yourself up for it and go buy some striping tape :p It will make this kind of manis so much easier! :)

  8. Hey what a nice job! Tape manis are always hard on us! But yes I agree with Sarah, although I own striping tape, it only works for super thin lines, for everything else we're stuck with the old scotch!

  10. I really like the result, the fact that it's not perfectly straight seems to be a wanted look actually. Know what I mean? And you reminded me about that OPI I really need to try!

  15. I use scotch tape too, I still haven't caved and gotten mani tape. I think it's just the waiting for the base color to dry that I have the problem with. I'm an impatient person! LOL I love it, you did an awesome job!

    1. I am super happy about HK Girl. It's the best alternative to Seche Vite and it doesn't goop up after half a bottle. I'm sold.
